Dell’educare. 57 “La tolleranza è una virtù … “

Non abbisogna di commento alcuno la semplicissima citazione tratta, al pari di tante altre, da “Ai piedi del maestro [1910] “ di J. Krishnamurti [1895-1986 ]. L’esercizio della tolleranza è un esercizio per l’appunto gravoso, esercizio che è necessario iniziare sin dalla più tenera età affinché non sedimentino nelle coscienze atteggiamenti di netta chiusura verso gli altri e soprattutto verso quelle idee e quelle convinzioni che possano, ad un primo acchito, risultare contrastanti con il nostro personale pensare. Non si diventa tolleranti per aspirazione, per comando o per altro ancora: bisogna esercitare la tolleranza come esercizio quotidiano, assumerla, anche in piccole dosi, come si assume quel tale farmaco che, seppur sgradevole al palato, riuscirà però a sanare dal morbo fisico che attanaglia il corpo. E di certo la tolleranza potrà apportare innumerevoli volte il gusto amaro che contraddistingue sempre tutto ciò che non collima con il nostro pensare, con la sfera più ampia della nostra emotività; ma quel calice dovrà essere sempre portato alle labbra, seppur sgradevole assai in tante circostanze della vita.

Molti insegnanti, però, commettono lo sbaglio di credere che i modi di vedere e le regole a cui essi stessi sono abituati, siano principi universali che tutti dovrebbero accettare.
Ecco perché sono ansiosi di distruggere le convinzioni ed i costumi degli studenti, al fine di sostituirli con altri che ritengono migliori. ( … )”
