Caserma Ederle
Vicenza, Italy

Caserma Ederle (Camp Ederle) in Vicenza, about 25 miles west of Venice, offers the usual amenities -- post exchange, commissary, theater, clubs, and extensive morale, welfare and recreation opportunities. Livorno's Camp Darby, in keeping with its smaller size, offers scaled-down versions of the same facilities and programs. Housing is primarily an off-post issue, however, since the vast majority of military and civilian personnel at both Caserma Ederle and Camp Darby live on the Italian economy. The US Army Health Clinic-Vicenza is a large clinic that serves a population of approximately 8,000 personnel. Caserma Ederle is located on the east side of Vicenza, not far from the Vicenza East (EST) exit off Autostrada (A4) which runs from Venice to Milan. The Autostrada is a toll road and similar to US interstate highways.

The Vicenza Exchange is the largest Mall Complex (over 80,000 square feet) south of the Alps. The complex offers a large assortment of facilities to include: One Hour Photo, Amusement Center, Optical Shop, Specialty Vendors, Power Zone, Food Court, Car Rental, Beauty/Barber Shop, Flower Mobile, Italian/German Gift Shops, German Clocks/Shrunks, and Full Service Main Store. Additional AAFES facilities located in the general area of the Mall Complex are AAFES Car Sales, Burger King, Military Clothing Sales/Tailor Shop, Launderette/Dry Cleaners, Shoppette, Theater, Auto Parts/Garage.

Vicenza is famous for Renaissance Architect Andrea Palladio's architectural wonders such as the Rotunda and Teatro Olimpico. Vicenza is about a half hour drive west of romantic, world-renowned Venice and two hours south of the Alps. About 160,000 Italians call Vicenza their home. The area around Vicenza is dotted with vineyards, farmland and industry. The thriving downtown area contains dozens of historical places, churches and villas. The Basilica, another Palladio creation, anchors the main downtown market area.
